The estate and the wine |
Nestled in the heights of the small town of El Pego, at the gateway to the Toro appellation (Castilla & Leon), Alvar de Dios has built his success and rapidly forged a unique signature. Committed to preserving the grape varieties endemic to his region and making wines with an unmistakable Spanish accent, he has made it a point of honor to be part of the terroir he inherited from his grandfather, preserving it through organic and biodynamic farming. |

The 2017 Vagüera El Maderal is a deep, beautifully mature white, evoking yellow-fleshed fruit, citrus zest, dried fruit and white flowers in a palate of great volume with a toasty accent given by its ageing on lees. Tension and fine bitterness give it renewed energy and perfect balance. Superb with mushroom risotto or baked fish. |

Hand harvested, aged on lees for 12 months in old barrels, neither filtered nor clarified. The estate has been certified organic since 2009 and is currently working with biodynamic preparations without certification. Certified organic wine. |
