The estate and the wine |
|
|
A leading figure in Spanish wine, Jorge Monzón brings world-class experience earned at legendary estates like Romanée-Conti and Vega Sicilia.
At his own vineyard, Dominio del Águila, organically farmed and guided by biodynamic principles, he has spent over a decade crafting wines of remarkable intensity—each one handled with the precision and care of a grand cru.
His rising reputation reached new heights when he joined Pingus in the ultra-exclusive club of 100-point Parker wines from Ribera del Duero—a true milestone that secured his place among the greats. |

Grown at nearly 900 metres of altitude, the 2019 Ribera del Duero Peñas Aladas Gran Reserva Red is nothing short of a Spanish monument. This is a wine of remarkable finesse, complexity, and balance—born from a meticulous selection of small, scattered plots planted with the oldest vines in the village, all exposed to the region’s cooling influences. Tucked away in a natural enclave surrounded by pines, junipers, and woodland, the vines grow on sandy, stony soils—ideal for Tempranillo, here co-fermented with a handful of local varieties using native yeasts. The blend was then aged for nearly five years in barrel. The result? A stunning wine—floral, elegant, and incredibly refined, with oak so seamlessly integrated it disappears into the whole. With its mineral depth and striking poise, this is a subtle, pure expression shaped by a cool vintage that suits it perfectly. Already a cult classic. |
