The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine A historic address in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Chante Cigale is making a strong comeback to the forefront! Alexandre Favier, the young steward of the estate, is bringing fresh energy that hasn't gone unnoticed by us. Indeed, having taken over recently, he has been infusing the place with a new vigor, bolstered by organic farming and a treasure trove of splendid old vines. Gentle aging, bright aromas of fruit, and slow infusion are the three cornerstones of his success.
Wine The 2020 Pi is the estate's grand cuvée, a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape that nods to the Pignan terroir from which it comes, a sandy soil that resonates beautifully with pure Grenache. Notes of peony, fruit infusion, fresh thyme, spices and dried herbs create a high level of complexity in our glasses. On the palate, harmony and density predominate, the woodiness remains at the right level, without excess, the minerality is well present, and the whole of this juice from old vines is cut out for ageing that can exceed twenty years. Don't rush it, or leave it in the decanter for a few hours! Rated 94/100 by our Committee!
Vinification Hand-harvested. Vines aged around 40 years. Berries infused for 18 to 24 days with light punching down and pumping over. Aged 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels.
