The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine Largely under the radar but closely followed by our sommelier Christian Martray, Estate Castagnier crafts wines that truly reflect their Burgundian origins. Jérôme Castagnier meticulously tends to some of the region’s most prestigious terroirs—Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vougeot—with unwavering dedication. His approach blends biodynamic-inspired practices with traditional barrel aging, incorporating a careful proportion of new oak to enhance complexity while preserving the purity of each cru.
Wine From a limestone-rich vineyard planted in 1964, the 2022 Red Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is a brilliantly pure Pinot Noir, where oak aging adds depth and finesse without overshadowing the wine’s freshness and precision. Its fresh, delicate fruit aromas are seamlessly woven into a dense yet finely sculpted texture. Simply exquisite! Rated 98/100 by the Selection Committee.
Vinification Hand harvested. 0.60 ha of vines planted in 1964 facing south east, limestone soil with lots of rock and large boulders. Cold pre-fermentation maceration and vatting for a fortnight. Aged in barrels for 14 to 16 months, of which 40 to 50% are new.
