The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine Domaine du Monteillet has seen 10 generations of wine makers from father to son. Stéphane Montez, who currently runs the estate, brings with him a knowledge of wine making in New Zealand and Australia. The estate's wines get their extraordinary qualities from this coming together of modernity and tradition.
Wine The domaine du Monteillet's red Cuvée "Fortis" 2008 sums up all the emotion which Côte-Rôtie is capable of giving. The wine gives off power, "Fortis" means courage and solidity in Latin. Under the innate power of this terroir, the wine hides a suppleness and incredible pleasantness. Don't come looking for any coarseness here, everything takes place within a tenderness of quality fruit. Superb!
Vinification 100% destemmed, cold maceration for 1 week, punching down of the cap once a day for 3 to 4 weeks, pumping over once a day for 3 to 4 weeks, long, progressive fermentation. Low pressure pneumatic pressing in order not to burst the seeds. Aging for a period of 19 months in new, French oak, demi-muids (580 litre barrels).
