The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine In the pantheon of French viticulture, Domaine Deiss shines brightly in the Alsace sky, setting the stage for the cutting edge of the French wine scene. Jean-Michel Deiss, and now his son Mathieu, produce wines that are compelling, complex, and wonderfully flavorful, with remarkable balance.

At this estate, which is fully biodynamic, they elevate Alsace terroirs and grape varieties to new heights with their extraordinary understanding of soils and winemaking. With diminishing residual sugars, the recent wines are their most refined yet, solidifying the estate's position in the global wine hierarchy.
Wine The 2019 white Alsacian Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is an absolute favorite of the Selection Committee, scoring 95/100 and 96/100 by Parker. This wine, rooted in a limestone bed, exudes tremendous purity, unveiling aromas of peach, apricot, blood orange, and spices, boasting impressive complexity. Its structure is expansive and generous, endowed with a delightful sweetness and prolonged finish. Given its luscious balance, this wine could be cellared for two decades to fully reveal its intricacies. If enjoying it now, it pairs beautifully with dishes like foie gras and fig jam, Asian cuisine, or blue cheeses, such as a Fourme d'Ambert.
Vinification Hand-picked, unsorted grapes for the ultimate expression of terroir. Ancestral vineyard practice, planted with 13 traditional grape varieties.

Certified organic and biodynamic wine.
