The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine A pinnacle of French winemaking and a 4-star estate in the Guide RVF—a leading French wine publication—Domaine Deiss shines brightly over Alsace and stands at the forefront of the new wave in French viticulture. Jean-Michel Deiss, now joined by his son Mathieu, crafts wines for true connoisseurs—complex, intensely flavourful, and beautifully balanced.

Farmed entirely according to biodynamic principles, the estate showcases Alsace’s terroirs and grape varieties with exceptional mastery. Their profound understanding of soil and vinification allows them to elevate each cuvée to something extraordinary. With residual sugars now dialed back more than ever, these latest wines are among their finest yet, securing the domaine’s place on the global stage. An absolute must for any serious wine lover.
Wine An absolute favourite of the Selection Committee, rated 96/100 and also scoring 96/100 from Parker, the 2020 Alsace Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim White is nothing short of phenomenal. Crafted from thirteen grape varieties grown together on a limestone slab, this wine is a masterclass in purity and balance. It opens with stunning aromas of candied grapes and syrupy mirabelle plums, immediately setting the tone. The palate is broad, dense, and luxuriously smooth, with a liqueur-like texture that coats the mouth. A vibrant streak of minerality provides lift and structure, delivering a sense of harmony that’s both powerful and graceful. This is Grand Cru character in all its glory—immensely pleasurable, endlessly long, and already expressive, yet easily capable of aging for five years or more. A brilliant match for classic foie gras toasts or refined Asian cuisine—think lemongrass and ginger prawn wok or lacquered poultry.
Vinification Hand-picked. Fermented in tuns using indigenous yeasts. Aged on lees for 1 year.
Residual sugar: 73.2g/L
