The estate and the wine |
One of Spain’s rising stars, Guimaro crafts extremely precise and beloved wines. Hailing from a tiny area in the northwest of the Peninsula, the estate works its local grape varieties by hand, through organic farming, and at a high altitude, on granite, schist, and sand soils. |

A parcel selection, the 2019 Red Ribeira Sacra A Ponte exudes finesse and elegance; in this fresh vintage, it is one of the estate's greatest success stories according to Parker, who rates it 95+/100! The regional grape varieties planted on granite and sand soils were all fermented together in large wooden vats, followed by aging in demi-muids, without new wood. The result is a graceful red, punctuated by fresh fruit, floral notes, fresh herbs, nuanced and complex, and exceptionally smooth. A very big bottle! |

Hand harvested. Fermentation of 50 days in closed conical tanks, 100% whole bunches. Slow and gentle pressing. Aged for 6 months in a 5,000-liter conical wooden vat, then 12 to 13 months in 500-liter French oak barrels (no new wood) during which malolactic fermentation takes place and 2 months in vats for decanting. Bottling in April 2021 without fining or filtration. Maturation in bottles for about 3 months before marketing. Production of 4,000 bottles. |
