The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine Three years ago, Jean-Marie Guffens took over this Barsac estate, which borders the Premiers Crus Classés of Climens and Coutet. Château Closiot is a wonderful terroir for sweet wines, as well as promising for dry white wines. The Belgian iconoclast is determined to shake up the Sauternes landscape with this acquisition, producing a dry white he has soberly named Le C de Sec.
Wine With a majority of Semillon, the 2018 Le C de Sec surprises and delights with its scope and immediate charm. It's a sensual, refined white wine with plenty of volume on the palate and notes of exotic fruits, but also a hint of toast, fresh butter and beeswax, brought about by careful ageing. The richness of the flesh, the freshness of the lemony finish and the elegance of this Bordeaux will forever set it apart from its peers. Like Jean-Marie Guffens, it's in a class of its own!
Vinification Hand-harvested, aged in barrels (25% new).
