The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine A jewel of the Southern Rhône and recipient of 2 stars in the RVF Guide, Domaine de la Janasse is a highly sought-after estate known for its exceptional consistency. The Sabon family passionately nurtures this estate, producing notable wines in both Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes-du-Rhône.

It’s important to understand that everything here is outstanding! Excellence is achieved across all cuvées, thanks to meticulous efforts in both cultivation and vinification, as well as an ideal fragmentation of vineyard parcels.

With perfectly achieved ripeness, the wines are powerful yet exhibit great finesse and freshness. They are the preferred choice of Olivier Poussier, Best Sommelier in the World and a member of our Tasting Committee!
Wine With its classic, savorily spicy expression, the 2020 Red Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a powerful wine, with notes of pepper, maquis and tapenade, displaying concentration and consistency. However, the tannin is taut on the palate, freshness is the order of the day and aging is largely assured. Superb! Rated 97/100 RVF.
Vinification Hand harvested and sorted on the vine. Vines planted 40% in 1920, 40% in 1965, 10% in 1976 and 10% in 1993 on 4 plots with different terroirs: rolled pebbles, sand, red clay covered with rolled pebbles and sandy-limestone. 80% de-stemming, 28-day maceration with daily manual punching of the cap. Aged 12 months, 3/4 in foudres and 1/4 in demi-muids (600 liters).
