Chartreuse is a one-of-a-kind liqueur — often imitated but never matched. Its recipe has been a closely guarded secret since 1605, when the manuscript was entrusted to the Carthusian monks. Known as the "Elixir of Long Life" and praised for its medicinal properties, Chartreuse is crafted through the maceration and distillation of 130 different plants, barks, and spices. Since 1840, when the monks of the Voiron monastery in Isère first began distilling it, every sip has offered a depth of complexity that remains unrivaled.
The liqueur comes in two distinct expressions: Yellow Chartreuse, softer and lower in alcohol, and Green Chartreuse, with a more intense herbal character and higher strength. Over the years, the monks have expanded the range with special cuvées, each shaped by unique aging times, maceration periods, and final alcohol levels. These are not just spirits — they are liquid works of art, capable of maturing gracefully for decades in the bottle.
Renowned for their digestive properties and complex flavors, Chartreuse liqueurs have achieved global renown. Yet, despite the surging demand, the Aiguenoire distillery maintains its commitment to limited production, preserving the rarity and prestige of this legendary liqueur. |

Created in 2005 to mark the 400th anniversary of the Duke of Estrées’ handover of the "Elixir of Long Life" manuscript to the Carthusian monks of Vauvert in Paris, this liqueur pays tribute to the "health liqueur" developed in the 19th century — the forerunner of the famous Green Chartreuse launched in 1840. The Chartreuse Liqueur d'Élixir Verte 1605 is crafted from a unique, secret recipe using 130 plants, reflecting the original spirit of the great green liqueurs of Chartreuse. Bottled at 56% ABV, it offers intensity, purity, and depth with an extraordinary aromatic richness. The bouquet reveals notes of macerated medicinal herbs, hyssop, and hints of grapefruit peel, all carried by a bold, structured profile. Its aromatic complexity is matched by exceptional persistence, with each sip offering a lasting, powerful finish. Serve it at 10°C, either neat or over ice, to fully appreciate its distinctive character and remarkable finesse. |

Made from plants, alcohol, water and sugar. This liqueur was created in 2005 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the handing over of the manuscript of the Elixir of Long Life by the Duc d'Estrées. It was inspired by the ‘Liqueur de Santé’ or ‘Elixir de table’ developed at the beginning of the 19th century, which became the Chartreuse verte in 1840. |
