The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine Since 2006, brothers Christoph and Johannes Thörle have been at the helm of Weingut Thörle, one of Germany’s most respected estates, based in Rheinhessen. Organic and biodynamic farming, combined with limestone-rich soils, form the foundation of this exacting domaine, which consistently earns praise from the influential Parker Guide.

Working 30 hectares of limestone terroirs with uncompromising standards, the Thörle brothers craft wines of remarkable beauty that rank among the most admired in southwestern Germany. Riesling and Pinot Noir thrive on prestigious slopes in the Grand Cru sites of Hölle, Probstey, and Schlossberg, impressing with their purity and precision.

In the tradition of Germany’s greatest producers—like Keller, Wittmann, Dönnhoff, Huber, and Fürst—Weingut Thörle has received widespread acclaim, with its wines regularly rated among the country’s, and indeed the world’s, very best.
Wine Fermented and matured in 600-litre German oak barrels—none of them new— the 2023 Rheinhessen Riesling Saulheimer Schlossberg White reveals impeccable precision from the very first sip. Subtle aromas of fresh white fruit and apricot unfold alongside delicate smoky nuances and a hint of mandarin zest. This dry Riesling evolves into a full-bodied style, with a dense texture and impressive stature balanced by a focused, vibrant acidity. It’s a white wine of remarkable energy, carrying intense mineral flavours that linger beautifully on the palate. Enjoy it over the next decade or even longer. Selected as a favourite by the Selection Committee (rated 94/100) and awarded 96/100 by James Suckling.
Vinification Hand harvested. Vinification with indigenous yeasts. Aged in old 600-liter oak barrels.
