The estate and the wine |
|
|
Recently awarded 3 stars by RVF for its "exceptional level" and embodying the prestige of great Burgundy, Domaine de la Vougeraie is one of the most accomplished houses today.
The estate's commitment to organic farming and biodynamic practices, established over the past two decades, along with its magnificent vineyard heritage - 67 parcels across 34 hectares - and the talent of Sylvie Poillot, result in enchanting wines. These are among the most elegant and inspiring of their appellations.
The rigorous approach to viticulture, combined with inspired winemaking techniques, including the significant use of whole bunch fermentation, creates a delicate and sensual style. The wines are characterized by their supreme grace in texture and flavor. |

The manual harvest took place on September 15, 2018, a 'flower day'. Meticulous sorting was done both in the vineyard and the winery. The wine comprises 70% whole bunches, uncrushed and gravity-fed into vats. No yeasts or enzymes were added. There was a pre-fermentation cold maceration at 12-15°C for 5 days, with a total maceration period of 18 days. Daily light pumping over was performed until the end of maceration. The wine was aged for 18 months in barrels, 30% of which were new (wood sourced from Cher, Tronçais, and Cîteaux). All barrels were racked. The wine was not fined and underwent light filtration before bottling on February 6, 10, and 12, 2020, corresponding with 'flower', 'fruit', and 'root' days.
The production was limited to 6,875 bottles, 600 magnums, and 80 jeroboams. The 1.4137-hectare parcel, Clos de Vougeot "Montiottes Hautes," faces east and includes plantings from 1946/1947, 1951/1952, 1954/1955, 1983/1984, 1989/1990, and 1993/1994. The estate has been practicing organic farming since 1998 with Ecocert certification from 1999, and biodynamic farming since 2001 without certification. |
