Ktima Kissa embodies the new wave of Greek winemaking. Perched on the slopes of the “Black Mountain” of Mavrioros in the Peloponnese, at 750 meters altitude, this flint- and rock-strewn vineyard enjoys an ideal setting—sheltered from southern winds and cooled by cold currents drifting up from the sea.
Since 1949, the Kissa family has tended these cool-climate terroirs, crafting distinctive wines made exclusively from local grape varieties.
Dimitrios Kissas, a trained oenologist and engineer who studied at the University of California, Davis, has poured all his expertise and passion into these wines, capturing the energy and magic of this storied enclave of the Pleiades—where, legend has it, the god Hermes was born in a cave atop a nearby mountain overlooking the family’s vineyards.
