Our committee's review
Ah the Côte-Rotie! Which wine lover has never dreamed of drinking it at least once in his life? To tell you the truth, it is one of our favorite appellations...
Côte-Rotie is one of the oldest vineyards in France. Indeed, the story begins more than 25 centuries ago with the arrival of the Greeks in the Rhone Valley who introduced the art of cultivating vines and making wine to the population. However, it is only in the 20th century, in 1940, that the appellation of controlled origin was created in order to revitalize the wine market of Ampuis.
Nowadays, the Côte-Rotie is composed of 330 hectares and the king grape variety, Syrah, is spread over the steep hillsides of 3 communes of the Northern Rhône Valley: Saint Cyr-sur-le-Rhône, Ampuis, and Tupins-et-Semons.
But the most important thing about Côte-Rotie is the different terroirs and localities. Indeed, 2 adjoining parcels can give quite different wines. The most famous are Côte Brune and Côte Blonde, La Landonne, La Turque, La Mouline, Côte Rozier, Les Rochins, Le Mollard, Lancement...
We have selected three estates that are recognized by wine lovers as expressing the very best of Côte Rôtie. Never too rich, never too oaky with in common this duo of incredible purity between the Syrah and the granitic soils, micashists and gneiss. Wines of great class that are simply unique.
(Re)discover this mythical appellation of Côte-Rotie and let yourself be intoxicated by this rich wine with a silky texture and velvety tannins.
