Wine:

The 2017 Red Pessac-Léognan Les Hauts de Smith is a paragon of balance, driven by a majority Merlot (60%) supported by Cabernet Sauvignon. It's an expressive, gourmand wine, already very pleasant to drink, with notes of blackcurrant, cedar and spices. The supple, unctuous, well-proportioned structure remains perfectly fresh and expressive, forming a highly seductive whole with a spicy finish. Rated 90/100 by Parker.

Vinification:

Hand harvested. 100% destemming, no crushing. Fermentation with punching down and/or pumping over, followed by 4 to 6 weeks' maceration in stainless-steel vats temperature-controlled at 26-28°C. Aged 14 months in barrels (20% new) made in the château's integrated cooperage.

Biodynamic certification.

Color:

Intense, brilliant crimson red.

Nose:

Fragrant bouquet of blackberry and blackcurrant, with a hint of chocolate and spice.

Palate:

Full-bodied and voluptuous, the palate is medium-bodied, with fine, coated tannins and a supple finish with a hint of graphite.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Duck confit, rump steak heart, pork filet mignon with chanterelle mushrooms.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2027
