Wine:
The flagship of Clos Rougeard, the 2017 red Saumur-Champigny Le Clos asserts itself with the austere freshness of the vintage while evoking gorgeous spicy and floral notes. It stretches with finesse, endowed with moderate concentration and a fresh finish.
Absolute summit of the Loire Valley, 2 stars in the Guide RVF, the Clos Rougeard is inseparable from the figures of Charly and Nady Foucault, the architects of this success. Forerunners in the development of organic agriculture since the 1970s, the Foucault brothers have opened the Loire to the world, demonstrating the strength of these Saumur-Champigny terroirs and their ability to produce great wines.
Le Bourg, Le Clos, Les Poyeux sound to the ears of wine lovers as the right notes, the admirable translation of Cabernet Franc on these terroirs of silica, limestone and sand; more confidential, a white from barely 1.5 hectares is also made on the grand cru limestone of Brézé.
In 2015, Charly Foucault died and Clos Rougeard was bought by the Bouygues family. The myth remains and the wines are still actively sought after.
