Wine:

From a remarkable vineyard nestled within Chinon—a steep, 2-hectare site with clay-limestone and flinty soils—the 2022 Red Clos du Chêne Vert Monopole delivers a ripe, polished expression of Cabernet Franc. Aged in 400-liter barrels with just 15% new oak, the wood is subtle and supportive, adding gentle roundness without masking the wine’s purity. The wine bursts with dark fruit aromas, layered with soft spice and a refined, graphite-like minerality. It’s vibrant and poised, with striking clarity and lift. Airy yet full of presence, this is a Cabernet Franc of rare finesse, built for long aging. Rated 96/100 by the Selection Committee.

Vinification:

On the right bank of the Vienne, south-west exposure, on hillsides, clay, shell sandstone, limestone. Hand harvested. Maceration and alcoholic fermentation in vats. Malolactic fermentation and aging for 16 months in oak barrels then 10 months in vats. Certified organic wine.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Grilled rib of beef, roast guinea fowl, oven-baked rabbit with mustard, pigeon casserole, mature farmhouse Saint-Nectaire cheese.

Cellar aging:

From today until 2036, and even longer for enthusiasts.

With two stars from the French wine guide RVF, Domaine Charles Joguet stands as one of the key names in Chinon—and a must-know estate in the Loire Valley.

Since 2006, the Genet family has run the domaine with uncompromising standards and organic practices, crafting Cabernet Francs of impressive depth from top-tier clay-limestone and clay soils. A vibrant freshness defines these wines, uniquely shaped by their northeast-facing vineyards.

Few estates in the Loire boast such iconic wines as Clos de la Dioterie, Clos du Chêne Vert, or Les Varennes du Grand Clos. Yet Joguet also excels in producing superb entry-level wines that make Cabernet Franc remarkably approachable—without ever losing the spirit of their terroir.
