Wine:
The 2023 Red Côte-Rôtie strikes the perfect balance of classic Syrah character, with mineral notes from the terroir, a subtle smoky touch and a beautifully judged oak aging. With its firm tannic structure, this is a wine that needs time — give it 6 to 12 months before opening to let it show its full potential, and it will easily age for 6 to 8 years, even longer for those who enjoy the patience.Vinification:
Hand harvested. Pre-fermentation cold treatment for 2 days at 8°C, alcoholic fermentation for 1 week and maceration for 21 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats at 28°C. Aged for 18 months, 80% in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, and 20% in jars.Color:
Deep purple redNose:
Very pure, mineral notes mixed with smoky hints and a woody presence without being overpowering.Palate:
The palate offers a structured and powerful ensemble that will benefit from 6 to 12 months of cellaring to reveal its full potential.
Temperature:
Serve between 14 and 16°C in a large glass.Food and wine pairing:
Roasted or grilled red meats, Salers or Charolais beef ribs, duck breast, rack of lamb in a herb crust, mature cheeses.Cellar aging:
Starting today, until 2032 and beyond for enthusiasts.
Here’s a gem uncovered by the Selection Committee at the Marché d’Ampuis two years ago — the must-visit annual January fair at the very heart of the Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie vineyards. While this legendary terroir still makes wine lovers dream, real discoveries here have sadly become rare, especially at this price level.
Domaine Degache Frères, a small 4-hectare estate run by three generations, is one of our latest favorites from the region. Offered at a fair price, this Côte-Rôtie sets the bar high — and you’ll want to move quickly.
