Wine:

A pure Syrah wine, the 2022 Red Saint-Joseph Lieu-dit La Côte doesn't shy away from the lovely smoky and bacon-like expression of the Rhone Valley, with a touch of pure violet and very ripe black fruits. The mineral structure, reminiscent of granite, is accompanied by great depth, a generous fleshiness, elegant tannins, and a beautiful energy that imparts flavors of soot and finely toasted oak. A delight ready to be enjoyed for five to eight years. Rated 94/100 by the Committee.

Vinification:

Harvested by hand, 25% of the crop is vinified whole. Maceration for 21 days under immersed cap, indigenous malolactic fermentation in barrel.
Aging for 10 months for 50% of the harvest in 500L demi-muid and in Austrian foudres for the remaining 50%, including 20% new oak.

Color:

Bright purplish red, with good concentration.

Nose:

Lovely, smoky fragrances with a hint of violet, underlined by notes of ripe black fruit and minerality.

Palate:

Generous, with the relief of a great vintage, this cuvée with its present tannins delivers a long, energetic juice.

Temperature:

Serve between 16 and 18°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Sausage cooked in red wine, pigeon cooked in rosé and black pepper, braised meats, Tandoori chicken.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2028, and even longer for enthusiasts.

A true craftsman of the Rhône, Aurélien Chirat tames the steep slopes of Condrieu and Côte Rôtie, as well as neighboring appellations, with exceptional skill. In recent vintages, he has led Vignobles Chirat on the path to excellence.

Recognized by the RVF Guide, which praises 'a very successful approach in a classic style, with a beautiful emphasis on elegance and freshness,' he was a must-have addition to our list.

Even more so, we were among the first to recognize the potential of this promising young estate and positioned ourselves well ahead of everyone else, offering you the pleasure of its lovely cuvées for some time now.
