Wine:
The 2019 Red Vin de France is a total UFO—a true original that only Jean-Marie Guffens could dream up. This unconventional blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache combines several vintages, the most recent being 2024, resulting in a dense, tightly-knit wine that’s been matured with real finesse. On the nose, you’ll pick up the Syrah’s smoky character alongside aromas of ripe stone fruit and a delicate graphite edge. The palate is still compact and impressively muscular, with a juicy, fleshy texture framed by plenty of fine-grained tannins. This is a bottle that wears its Luberon origins proudly—sun-drenched, but crafted with remarkable precision. A prime candidate to serve alongside a hearty ribeye steak. An undisputed benchmark in the Mâconnais, Jean-Marie Guffens has been hailed by the French wine press—Revue du Vin de France, the country’s leading wine magazine—as nothing less than the greatest Chardonnay winemaker in the world. His White wines stand shoulder to shoulder with Burgundy’s most prestigious estates, and every true enthusiast knows just how remarkable his wines are.
Driven by relentless curiosity, he constantly ventures into new territory, proving time and again his flair for crafting original wines in all three colours. This particular range was born at Château des Tourettes, the Luberon estate of Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens, perched 400 metres up on limestone-rich soils.
