Wine rated 93/100 by our committee!

Wine:

Made from 70% old-vine Macabeu, with the remainder Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris, the 2022 Vieilles Vignes White IGP Côtes Catalanes immediately charms with its toasty character, generous texture, and long, saline finish. Floral and herbaceous, with notes of aromatic plants and celery, the palate is dense and fleshy—a concentrated Southern white that remains beautifully balanced. A light touch of natural carbonation reduces the need for added sulfur and gently fades with aeration. This is a gastronomic white built to age. Rated 94/100 by the French wine guide RVF.

Vinification:

Hand harvested. Traditional vinification. Aged in old casks and barrels.

Color:

Bright golden yellow.

Nose:

An aromatic floral bouquet of herbs with a hint of celery.

Palate:

A dense, full-bodied texture in a fresh style with lovely bitter notes and a complex finish.

Temperature:

Serve at 10 to 12°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Delicate tart with Collioure anchovies, grilled fish, sea bass with fennel, Provençal red mullet, forgotten vegetables (mix of parsnips, Jerusalem artichokes, truffles, etc.), pan-fried salsify and slices of bone marrow with chicken jus.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2030

Domaine Gauby, the undisputed icon of Roussillon, holds 3 stars from the French wine guide RVF and stands as the region’s leading light. A trailblazer and source of inspiration for an entire generation of winemakers, the estate champions a deeply respectful, low-intervention approach—both in the vineyard and the cellar.

Set across 100 hectares of wild, arid, and dramatic terrain, the estate is a model of biodiversity, where organic farming, agroforestry, mixed crops, and livestock all thrive side by side.

Gérard Gauby and his son Lionel draw out the full depth and character of Calce’s remarkable soils—a patchwork of limestone and iron-rich schist unlike anywhere else.

Domaine Gauby’s wines are celebrated for their luminous purity, elegance, and unmistakable sense of place. With careful ageing that preserves freshness and adds complexity, these wines are built to evolve beautifully over time. A true reference point for the region—unrivalled in vision and execution.
