Wine:

Shaped by 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in French oak barrels—many of them new—the 2018 Stellenbosch Anwilka Red is a bold, full-bodied wine with a silky yet mineral-driven structure. It delivers layers of red fruit, spice, and white pepper, wrapped in fine, polished tannins. The result is a beautifully balanced, fresh, and complex wine with a long, richly textured finish. Built to age with confidence.

Vinification:

Hand harvested early in the morning. Traditional vinification. Aged for 19 months in 400-liter French oak barrels.

Color:

Deep ruby red.

Nose:

Magnificent aromas of red fruits, spices, and a hint of white pepper.

Palate:

Delicate tannins offer a silky texture with a fresh and complex balance.

Temperature:

Serve at 14–16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Milk-fed lamb and garlic in their skins, beef ribs with rosemary jus, grilled pork ribs, roast pigeon, assortment of tommes: Savoie, Morbier, Saint-Nectaire fermier.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2032

In 1997, Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus) and Bruno Prats (formerly of Cos d’Estournel) joined forces to create Anwilka in South Africa’s Stellenbosch region. Since becoming part of the Klein Constantia family in 2012, the estate has continued to elevate its game, now under the skilled hand of Matthew Day, Klein Constantia’s head winemaker.

Today, Anwilka stands confidently on the world stage, holding its own against the finest wines anywhere. Just inland from the ocean, the 39-hectare vineyard is planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, rooted in iron-rich soils with clay sublayers—an exceptional terroir for crafting bold, refined reds with true international stature.
