Wine:

The 2017 Red Saint-Emilion Les Chênes de Macquin is no exception to the chateau's style, which has forged an unbroken series of excellent vintages for the last 30 years. Produced with the same exacting standards as their grand vin (first wine), it possesses the same assets - finesse, elegance, precision - in a softer, more immediate register. At this price, it is a bargain, an exclusive offer reserved for our Valap members only.

Vinification:

Hand harvested. Vatting by gravity of whole berries and parcel-by-parcel vinification in wooden and concrete vats. Reduced aging on fine lees in barrels for 12 months.

Color:

Deep red with good intensity.

Nose:

Aromas of red and black fruits punctuated with spicy notes.

Palate:

Both delicate and precise, this wine of immediate pleasure is juicy and elegant. What style!

Temperature:

Serve between 16 and 18°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Roast beef, duck breast with porcini mushrooms and sautéed potatoes from Sarlat, saddle of lamb with herbs.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2030

A Premier Grand Cru Classé, or Classified First Growth, the Château Pavie-Macquin sits at the very top of the Bordeaux hierarchy. As Pavie and Troplong-Mondot’s immediate neighbor, it is inspired by biodynamic viticulture and produces a series of fantastic wines expressing the best of their terroir. Modern, classy and elegant bottles that honor their winemaker’s talents. Here is one of Bordeaux Right Bank’s most exemplary Château. Rated 97/100 by Parker, their 2017 Grand Vin (First Wine) raises even further the Cru’s reputation and stature amongst amateurs and critics alike.
