Wine:

Awarded a 97/100 by R. Parker, the 2021 Red Bierzo La Vitoriana hails from northern-facing terroirs, granting it exceptional freshness. The ever-vibrant mencia grape hints at dark fruits, spices, and violet to the nose, complemented by a smoky wood essence. On the palate, its harmony is evident, boasting elegant tannins and a smoky reminiscence from its aging process. In essence, this wine seamlessly marries robustness with masterful balance and a refreshing, lingering finish. Perfect to enjoy alongside grilled duck breast, a prime ribeye, or a well-aged butcher's cut. An astonishing find at such a price!

Vinification:

Harvested by hand. Maceration for 60 to 90 days in vats, then finishing in barrels. Aged 12 months in oak barrels.

Color:

Intense red with violet highlights.

Nose:

Expressing great purity on the nose, this cuvée features aromas of violets, red berries and wild blackberry.

Palate:

Harmonious and perfectly ripe, this concentrated tannin juice with subtle toasted flavors reveals a luxurious ageing process, and a magnificent persistence sublimates this cuvée.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Duck breast on the grill, a fine entrecôte or a well-matured piece of beef from the butcher, lamb chop and celery purée, duck supreme and reduced jus.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2031

A free spirit and rebel, Raul Perez stands as a beacon for the young generation of Spanish winemakers. He does nothing conventionally, perhaps precisely to surpass conventional standards. He's chosen to follow nature, capturing only the best it offers, according to each vintage.

A true mentor, he also shines on his own vineyards. Close to his residence, in the village of Valtuille de Abajo in the Bierzo province, Raul Perez crafts a collection of wines sourced from very old vines.
