Our committee's review
A benchmark name in the Rhône Valley, Julien Pilon—awarded one star by Revue du Vin de France, France’s leading wine publication—has won over even the most discerning enthusiasts, and his wines have become some of the region’s most sought-after.
Having honed his craft alongside icons like Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard, Pierre-Jean Villa, and Mas Amiel, Julien has mastered cutting-edge winemaking that captures every subtlety of his terroirs.
His wines, drawn from the finest appellations of the Northern Rhône Valley, are a dream for those who crave freshness and purity: dazzlingly precise Whites and equally brilliant Reds.
The flip side? This well-deserved success—combined with tiny production volumes—makes securing these bottles a real challenge.
Don’t miss your chance to claim this trilogy from one of our absolute favourite winemakers, crafted in the outstanding 2023 vintage.
The 2023 Red Saint-Joseph Rue des Poissonniers, Paris XVIIIe once again exceeds the expectations of its appellation! A Selection Committee Favorite, rated 94/100, it offers a beautifully ripe nose, layered with black fruit, spice, and that signature smoky, bacon-like note found in top-tier Syrah. The palate is still youthful, brimming with juicy fruit and firm, structured tannins. Yet, its balance is impeccable, with vibrant freshness and outstanding aging potential. A wine to watch—and to savor for years to come.
A Selection Committee Favorite, rated 96/100, the 2023 Red Côte Rôtie La Porchette captures the very essence of great Syrah—ripe, juicy, and beautifully structured. The nose is pure, intense, and fresh, unfolding with layers of smoky bacon, black fruit, and wild blackberry. The palate is remarkably smooth, almost like a silky coulis, with polished tannins that promise excellent aging potential. Thoughtfully aged in oak, the balance is impeccable, enhancing depth without overpowering the wine’s vibrant character. A truly outstanding bottle—one that belongs in every serious collector’s cellar. This winemaker never ceases to impress!
Anchored in an equal blend of Roussanne and Marsanne, and sourced from six parcels spanning the length of the appellation, the 2023 Saint-Joseph Dimanche à Lima White is a gorgeous, textural wine. Its generous aromatics—ripe apricot and yellow flowers—reveal beautifully mature fruit on the nose, which is strikingly pure and precise. On the palate, maturation in barrels (including a touch of new oak that imparts subtle toasted nuances) brings presence, volume, and a rich, layered mouthfeel. The wine shows impressive texture and depth, finishing with refined mineral bitterness that lends persistence and balance. A superb achievement—awarded 92/100 by our Selection Committee.
