AWARDS

A wine rated 94-95/100 by our Committee!

Wine:

The 2023 red Beaujolais-Villages Cuvée Jean Baptiste is worthy of a Beaujolais Cru and far exceeds the standards of its appellation. Vinified exclusively in concrete vats, with no added wood, it exudes radiant fruity aromas of pure, fresh Gamay and stone fruit, with a touch of black pepper. The palate is well-balanced, delicate and velvety, with extremely well-integrated tannins between silk and velvet. All the class of a great Gamay! This is undeniably a wine for aging, a remarkable cuvee to wait quietly in the cellar. Rated 94-95/100 by the committee.

Vinification:

Hand harvested from old vines planted in 1941 and 1948, 100% de-stemmed, long maceration, aged for 12 months in barrels on lees for 1/3 of the wine and in vats for 2/3 of the wine.

Certified organic wine.

Color:

Bright, intense red with violet highlights.

Nose:

Aromas of pit fruit with hints of black pepper.

Palate:

Delicate and velvety with beautifully ripe fruity flavors, this wine releases a pure, fresh taste with great balance and silky tannins.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Homemade pâté en croûte, brioche sausage with Madeira sauce, roast kid.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2034, and even longer for enthusiasts.

A family estate set in the heart of the Beaujolais terroir, on the steep and impressive Perréon vineyard, Domaine de La Madone is a confidential address that produces wines of the highest stature, thanks to the talent of Bruno, Olivier and Frédéric Bererd.

The organic viticulture is nothing short of epic; the wines, sincere and compelling, are formulated with precision thanks to the three brothers' vat-ageing and Burgundian vinification techniques; their modesty is inversely proportional to the quality of the wines, highlighted by very attractive prices.

Their Jean-Baptiste wine in particular, a grand vin produced only in the best vintages, outclasses all the standards of its appellation. It's a wine for aging that requires a little patience, like the 2009, which received a 100/100 rating when tasted six years later...
