Zacapa 23 Sistema Solera Gran Reserva dark rum combines notes of dried fruits, honey, spices, and nutmeg, with a touch of cherry. When aired, nuances of cocoa and licorice accompany a hint of wood. The warm palate seduces with its intense flavors reminiscent of Bourbon vanilla and bitter cocoa. The finish is fascinatingly persistent with intertwined flavors of honey, caramel, spice and dried fruit.

Elaboration:

Distilled from virgin sugarcane honey, aged in the "house of clouds" at 2300 meters above sea level, according to the "sistema solera" method: rums of different ages and profiles are blended and then aged in a succession of at least 3 different barrels. The first barrels were used to preserve robust American whiskies, the second delicate sherry and the last elegant Pedro Ximenez wines. In the end, the resulting liquid is a unique blend of rums from 6 to 23 years of age.

Color:

Mahogany, deep.

Nose:

Smooth, notes of dried fruit, honey, spices, nutmeg mixed with touches of cherry. accents of cocoa and licorice and a touch of wood.

Palate:

Warm, tasty, very intense and balanced with notes of vanilla and cocoa. The finish is fascinatingly persistent with its intertwining of honey, caramel, spicy oak and dried fruits.

Food and wine pairing:

Pure, on its own, on ice, or in cocktails like Zacapa 23 Old Fashioned: 6 cl of Zacapa 23 Rum, 1 cl of date or plum syrup, 1 dash of "chocolate" bitter, 1 dash of "orange" bitter, orange peel as a garnish, mix everything in a mixing glass until you get a very good dilution, pour this mixture on a large ice cube in a Rock glass.

It is one of the most famous rums of Guatemala! Using only concentrated cane juice, grown 350 meters above sea level, Zacapa makes unique rums, watched over for 30 years by cellar master Lorena Vasquez. The aging and maturation process - with no less than 180,000 barrels - is very complex here, mixing static aging, classic maturation and solera; an art mastered since the foundation in 1976 and which makes all the complexity of Zacapa.

It is not surprising that this emblematic House is one of the most prized in the world!
