Wine:

The 2023 Pure White Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a 100% Clairette, sourced from a sandy-clay parcel in the “Les Pialons” vineyard—a heartfelt tribute to one of the oldest grape varieties of the southern Rhône Valley. This is a wine of striking elegance, with a silky, delicate texture and a vibrant sense of freshness. At once ripe and crystalline, it avoids any excess weight, instead offering beautiful depth and roundness, followed by a subtle saline finish that adds lift and precision. Brimming with energy and tension, it’s a brilliant expression of Clairette—produced in ultra-limited quantities.

Vinification:

From the Pialons district, an emblematic terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape composed of very delicate marine sand and red clay. Aged for 18 months in demi-muids on lees. 1,930 bottles produced.

Temperature:

Serve between 10 and 12°C in a large glass.

Food and wine pairing:

Risotto with shellfish, scrambled eggs with truffles, sea bream Provençal style, pan-fried foie gras with citrus fruits.

Cellar aging:

From today until 2035, and beyond for enthusiasts.

Domaine La Barroche is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s best-kept secrets—highly rated by Olivier Poussier, Best Sommelier in the World, and quietly earning a cult following among those in the know. Discretion may be their trademark, but the quality of their wines speaks volumes.

Julien and Laetitia Barrot work with some of the oldest vines in the region—many over a hundred years old—planted in prime northern parcels of the appellation, close to the iconic Rayas. With a clear focus on finesse and freshness, they produce remarkably pure, expressive wines, offered only through tightly controlled allocations.

Produced in tiny volumes, aged in concrete or large oak casks to preserve their elegance, these wines have become must-haves for serious collectors and enthusiasts alike. No wonder Domaine La Barroche has earned a star in Revue du Vin de France, France’s most respected wine guide.
